Aqui está. Finalmente, após meses e meses à espera de ser acabado, consegui. Bem, vamos lá começar pelo ínicio.

Os The Pretty Reckless são uma banda formada em 2007, com Taylor Momsen como vocalista. Como é que me deparei com esta banda? Fácil. A Taylor fez o papel de uma das minhas personagens preferidas (se não A preferida) da série televisiva Gossip Girl. E eu rendi-me instantaneamente à onda rock que tanto diferia da personagem.

Adiante, desde que os conheço que adoro todas as suas músicas (o álbum deles é demasiado bom para os meus ouvidos), e esta música chamada "Kill Me" não foi excepção. Mas, sendo isto completamente verdade, eu não adorei assim tanto o vídeo "de letras" oficial (assiste ao vídeo aqui). E foi aí que eu pensei: porque não faço eu um vídeo? Deve ser porreiro! E assim o fiz, mas infelizmente ficou parado um terrível longo período de tempo. Então decidi terminá-lo sem o terminar; ou seja, juntar tudo o que já tinha até agora e fazê-lo bom o suficiente para mim e para a minha consciência. E foi este o resultado! Espero que gostem!

Here it is. Finally, after months and months of waiting to be complete, I made it happen. So, let's start from the beginning shall we?

The Pretty Reckless is a band formed in 2007, with Taylor Momsen as "lead singer". How I came up with this band? Easy. Taylor played one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) characters from the tv show Gossip Girl. And I instantly fell in love with the rock vibe that was so different from the character. 

Anyway, since I've known them I loved every single song of them (their album is oh so good to my ears), and this one called "Kill Me" was no exception. Although this is highly true, I didn't love their official lyric video as much (watch the video here). So I thought: why don't I make a video for it? It should be cool! And so I did, but unfortunately it rested an awful amount of time unfinished. So I decided that I would finish it up without finishing it up; I mean, I'd put together what I had so far and make it good enough for me and my conscience. And this is the result! Hope you guys like it!

lily's lullaby

E cá estou eu de novo. É esta a razão por qual eu acabo todos as minhas publicações com "Até..." Honestamente, eu nunca sei quando vai ser o meu próximo post. Talvez devesse organizar datas específicas ou algo do género, mas assim não seria tão espontâneo nem "apaixonado", se é que me faço entender. Eu criei este blog para partilhar o meu trabalho, para partilhar os meus interesses. Não para respeitar calendários ou datas limites. Por isso, cá estou eu de novo.

Eu trago algo que eu fiz com muito amor, para a minha pessoa especial. Há alguns... meses(?) atrás eu escrevi uma musica instrumental para a minha namorada, da qual me orgulho bastante. Não se deixem levar, eu cá não faço patavina de ideia de como tocar piano! Escrevi-a/toquei-a online (alguns podem chamar isto "fazer batota", eu cá chamo "adaptar"). Adiante, eu escrevi-a, toquei-a e mostrei-lha. No dia cinco de Maio decidi surpreende-la de novo! Por isso, recolhi algumas cenas do filme preferido dela - Pearl Harbor - e criei um "vídeo-clip" para a balada criada.

And here I am again. This is exactly the reason why I always end my posts with "Util..." It's because I honestly have no idea when is the next post coming up. Maybe I should schedule it or something, but that way it would feel as spontaneous nor as "passionate", if you know what I mean. I created this blog to share my work, to share my interests. Not to respect schedules nor dead-lines. So, here I am again.

I bring you here something that I made with much love, to my special one. A few... months(?) ago I wrote a piano song to my girlfriend, which I was indeed very proud of. Now, don't get too excited, I have no idea how to play piano! I played online (some call it cheating, I call it adapting). Anyway, I wrote it, played it and showed it to her. On May fith I decided to surprise her yet again! So I collected some scenes from her favorite movie - Pearl Harbor - and created a "music video" for the lullaby made for her.

É chamado de olho surpresa (clica aqui) e é uma espécie de caleidoscópio mas ao invés de multiplicar a imagem, divide-a. Penso que cria um efeito bastante interessante, novo e "refrescante", por isso cá estou eu a partilhar. Experimenta!

Basically, all this photographs were created with the help of a very intriguing object. It's called a surprise eye (click here) and it's kind of a kaleidoscope but instead of multiplying the imagine, it divides it. I think it creates a very interesting, new and fresh effect, so here I am sharing it. Feel free to try it!

officina

Como referi no primeiro post, sou estudante do curso de Design de Comunicação. Portanto, uma das minhas cadeiras é Tipografia. E este cartaz que vos mostro aqui foi um trabalho realizado para a mesma. Cada aluno foi fornecido por um tipo de letra, dado pelo professor. O objectivo? Realizar um cartaz respectivo a um tipo de letra, usando única e exclusivamente tipografia, tendo de alguma forma referência à história do tipo de letra.
Pois, o tipo que fez par comigo foi "Officina".
Este tipo de letra foi criado em 1990, por Eric Spiekermann, e foi criada propositadamente para documentos de escritório (daí o nome - officina/office). E foi nisso mesmo que me inspirei! Utilizei a meu favor a seriedade e sobriedade dos documentos, a peculiaridade dos dois Fs em Officina, criando um reflexo entre ambos que originava assim uma espécie de planta de escritórios de caixa (pelos menos é isto que eu chamo àqueles escritório minúsculos dos filmes).
À direita podem ver as outras tentativas, que não passaram disso.

Like I mentioned on my first post, I'm a Graphic Design student. Therefore, one of my subjects is Typography. And this poster that I show you here was a "paperwork" for it. Each student was given, by the professor, a font. The goal? It's to create a poster around a font, using exclusively typography, having in some way historical references about it.
Well, my partner-font was "Officina".
This font was created in 1990, by Eric Spierkermann, and it was created wittingly for office papers (thus the name - officina/office). And that's exactly were I got my inspiration! I used in my favor the seriousness and sobriety of office documentation, the peculiarity of the two Fs in Officina, creating a reflection between both of them that originated some kind of box-office plant (at least that's what I call those tinny little offices that are on the movies).
On the right, you can see other attempts, which did not make it.

Pois bem aqui começa o primeiro post "a sério"!
Trago comigo uma experiência fotográfica feita por Liliana Gonçalves (aguardando blog/website para publicitar na barra lateral). Esta experiência baseia-se na captura desfocada dos reflexos coloridos de CDs despedaçados. Ora, eu cá sou suspeito de a trazer para aqui, visto que a menina referida se trata da minha cônjuge. No entanto, sendo eu suspeito a olhos alheios como referi, essa não é a razão pela sua presença aqui! Não senhor! Nada disso. Eu cá, sendo namorado ou não desta senhorita, aprecio bastante o seu trabalho (seja no território gráfico ou fotográfico). E, como se pode ver, tenho razões para isso!
Mesmo assim, não há duvida que ela voltará a aparecer... Muitas mais vezes.

Well, this is where my first "real" post begins!
I bring with me a photographic experience made by Liliana Gonçalves (still waiting for blog/website to advertise in the sidebar). This study is based on the unfocused capture of the multicolor reflexes from broken CDs. Now, I'm suspicious for bringing her here, since the mentioned girl is my partner. However, being suspicious at others eyes or not like I mentioned, that's not the reason of her presence here! Not sir! Not at all. I, being this lady's boyfriend or not, appreciate very much indeed her work (be it on the graphic or photographic territory). And, as it can be witnessed, I have loads of reasons to do so!
Non the less, there's no doubt she'll come up again... Many times.

wut?

Por onde começar...? Bem, comecemos pelo meu espanto pelas actuais 82 visitas a este blog (provavelmente aleatórias, mas não deixam de ser surpreendentes)! Onde antes se encontrava uma imensidão de "wut"s, vai agora estar a explicação da criação deste espaço.

O meu nome é Leonardo Silva, sou aluno universitário da Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa. Estou a tirar o curso de Design Gráfico, onde já tenho uma experiência exterior à faculdade com este curso, tendo-o realizado na Escola Secundária Artística António Arroio. Não é algo novo para mim, até porque familiares meus também trabalham nesta área. Posso definitivamente dizer que é uma paixão; daquelas coisas em que pensamos "quero fazer isto para o resto da vida"! Difícil em Portugal hoje em dia, mas não falemos da crise... Coisas deprimentes no primeiro post não é lá muito agradável.

Agora que já me apresentei, falemos então do porquê deste blog. Pois bem, tudo começou com a minha vontade de expor os meus trabalhos às pessoas (tanto os académicos como os pessoais). Não sei, desejava ter assim algo mais meu e algo mais "oficial" (não é uma óptima escolha de palavras mas terá que servir). Um sítio onde eu pudesse expor as minhas criações, onde pudesse ter feed back e contacto com o exterior.

No entanto, não vou restringir este blog só aos meus trabalhos. Quero torná-lo mais pessoal, mais "intimo", de certa forma. Não que vá expor aqui todos os meus segredos e sentimentos, vou apenas partilhar com quem quiser os meus gostos, inspirações, experiências, trabalhos de outrens e afins. Será uma espécie de diário gráfico de um designer gráfico, ou melhor, de aspirante a designer gráfico. E deixo já aqui também que não é sonho meu ter uma mala clássica daquelas pretas que dá com tudo da Chanel, como a Pepa. Nop. Quero apenas partilhar a minha paixão com quem quiser receber essa partilha.

E pronto, já foram feitas apresentações, introduções e explicações. Agora é começar! Veremos no que isto dá...

Where to start...? Well, let's start with my amazement with the currently 82 views on this blog (which are probably random, but non the less amazing)! Where there were a bunch of "wut"s before, now there'll be an explanation for the creation of this site.

My name is Leonardo Silva, i'm a college student of Fine Arts College of the University of Lisbon. I'm studying Graphic Design, where I've had experience before, for I graduated high school in the same area on António Arroio High School of Arts (Lisbon). It's nothing new for me, since I have relatives in the same area. I can definitely say it's a passion of mine; one of those things you think "I wanna do this for the resto of my life"! Quite difficult in Portugal nowadays, but let us not talk about the crisis... Depressing stuff on the first post is not very delightful. 

Now that I have introduced myself, let's talk about the reason for this blog. Well, it all started with my will for showing my work to others (not only my academic work but my personal as well). I don't know, I wanted to have something mine and something more "official" (not the greatest choice of words but it'll do). A place where i could expose my creations, where I could have some feed back and contact with the world outside.

However, I will not restrict this blog only to my work. I want to make it more personal, more "intimate", in some kind of way. Not that I'll just expose all my secrets and feelings, I'll just share with who ever wants my personal tastes, inspirations, experiences, others' work, etc. You can call it a graphic designer's graphic diary if you may, or better yet, an aspiring graphic designer! And let me just say that it isn't any dream of mine to own a classic bag that goes with everything from Chanel, like Pepa. Nop. I just want to share my passion with whoever wants to receive that share.

And this is it, there's been presentations, introductions and explanations. Now all it needs is a start! Let's see what this brings...
